The mission of the Central NMR Facility is primarily to make NMR spectroscopy available to researchers of the Institute, and, to a limited extent, to the surrounding Northern India community, for the advancement of their research. The Facility, located in Block V-144, will soon be equipped with three superconducting NMR spectrometers operating in the liquids mode. The spectrometers range from 7.05 Tesla (300 MHz 1H frequency) to 11.74 Tesla (500 MHz 1H frequency).
On site technical staff are ready to facilitate data acquisition; enabling NMR applications for those without advanced training. Basic training for experimental liquid state NMR is provided to PhD students and postdocs. Users gain access to perform their own NMR experiments by passing a short NMR test. Advanced experimental liquid state NMR spectroscopy (running 2D experiments, multinuclear NMR, etc) is performed by the technical staff. Each research group that uses NMR have at least one or two trained users.
All three spectrometers are of the Bruker Avance AV-III type and are equipped with broadband probes with a single axis gradient. These instruments are heavily used for small molecule experiments. Most standard NMR experiments have been implemented on the spectrometers. Biological NMR 2D and 3D experiments are being inititated. The 400 MHz spectrometer has an autosampler for accelerated workflow.
