Universal Testing Machine (UTM) CRF Sonipat Campus

The Universal Testing Machine (UTM) tests the tensile and compressive strength of materials. The UTM at this facility can be used broadly for polymers, tissues, and composites.

Manufacturer: Zwick Roell, Germany Static UTM Z010

The static UTM of 10 KN is a dual column Universal Testing Machine with a frame capacity of 10 kN. Also, static UTM has four load cells with capacity 20 N, 500 N, 2500 N and 10kN. A torque load cell of capacity 2 Nm can be operated simultaneously.

Dynamic UTM HCT25: The Dynamic UTM of HCT25KN (Servo Hydraulic) is a stand-alone Universal Testing Machine with a maximum load capacity of 10 kN specially designed for fatigue and life cycle testing of materials. Dymanic UTM has two torque/axial load cells of capacity (a) 2 kN with 20 Nm and (b) 10 kN with 20 Nm.

The equipment has several grippers
  1. Pneumatic wedge grips – 100 N, 5 kN and 10 kN
  2. Compression platen 10 kN (136 mm diameter)
  3. Two-point flexure grippers for medical applications (100 N)
  4. Three-point flexure gripper for medical application (maximum force 1 kN), three and four-point bending grippers for metallic bone plates. Both machines are designed to test a wide range of materials, including but not limited to: metals, laminated composites, rigid plastics, films, paper, thin sheet metal, adhesives and foils, in tension, compression, flexure, shear, and peel. This machine also has an environmental chamber designed to operate over a temperature range of - 80 ˚C up to +250 ˚C.

Spectification of Instrument :
1. Load measurement accuracy : +/- 0.5% of indicated load from 2% to 100% capacity; extended range.
2. Position measurement accuracy : +/- 0.01% of reading or 0.001 mm, whichever is greater. Speed accuracy: +/- 0.005% of set speed.

The following tests can be performed using the above equipments:
  1. Tensile testing
  2. Compression testing
  3. Bending test,
  4. Fracture testing
  5. Fatigue testing
  6. Toughness testing
Samples requirment for UTM

Note : The user shall prepare the samples as per their requirements / appropriate ASTM standards. There are no tools at the facility for sample preparation. In general, samples of regular geometries cylindrical or flat samples can be tested. Kindly discuss with the operator-in-charge.
